In Sicilia nel '40, trasportando in una bara grano rubato per sfamare i poveri, Salvatore Giuliano e Aspasio Pisciotta incappano nei carabinieri: Salvatore spara, ne uccide uno e fugge, inseguito, insieme a Pisciotta. Nella fuga rubano i cavalli dell'americana Camilla, duchessa di Crotone. Ma Salvatore è mortalmente ferito e si rifugia in fin di vita in un convento di frati. Dopo molti giorni Giuliano si riprende, contro ogni logica, e ritorna al suo sogno di dare la terra ai contadini, così come vorrebbe anche il comunista Silvio Ferra, fratello della sua ragazza, Giovanna, e di annettere infine la Sicilia agli Stati Uniti d'America. Salvatore Giuliano si avventura così in ogni sorta di imprese micidiali "in nome di Dio e della Sicilia", in aperta rivolta contro quelli che egli ritiene i tre poteri che impediscono la realizzazione dei suo sogno: mafia, aristocrazia e chiesa.

Alla fine del 1977, con gli strascichi di Long Island che ancora li ossessionavano, i Warren si erano imposti una pausa di riflessione e si erano recati a Londra, dove dovettero affrontare un'entità demoniaca che si era insediata nella casa della famiglia Hodgson, nel popolare quartiere di Enfield.
